APAYP

Adjusted Percentage of Available Yards Punted

Adjusted Percentage of Available Yards Punted (or APAYP) is an advanced punting stat. APAYP measures each punt throughout the season and averages them together. Each punt is measured based on available yards to punt. For example, if you have the ball at the 50, you have 49 available punt yards. If the punt is downed at the 5 (45-yard punt), that punt went 91.8% of available punt yards (45/49). But, if you have the ball at your own 1, a 70-yard punt is only 71.4% of available punt yards. So each punt is measured against the shorter of 1. yards to goal or 2. the average of the 10 longest non-touchback punts of the season.

*Punter must average 2.5 punts per game (rounded down) to qualify
